LADY REBELS SWIM AND DIVE PLACES 5TH AT LIBERTY DISTRICT CHAMPIONSHIPS

LIBERTY DISTRICT CHAMPIONSHIPS (GIRLS):
The Lady Rebels took a very young team into the Liberty District Swim and Dive Championships with many key swimmers taking part in their first high school Championship. They young team swam well with many personal best times posted and a number of Region and State qualifying swims.
In the 200 Yard Medley Relay, the Rebels team of Rachael Wray, Matty Ferguson, Natalie Dillinger and Marla Surette came into the meet seeded 6th and in hopes of an elusive Region qualifying time. The relay team (made up of 3 freshman and a sophomore) not only dropped 3 seconds from their previous best time but they qualified for the Northern Region championships and finished in 4th place.
In the 200 Yard Freestyle, 3 Lady Rebels scored including Marla Surette (10th place), Jenna Degner-Lopez (14th) and senior captain Katie Rigotti (16th). In addition, Katie Robertson dropped more than 2 seconds off her personal best time in the event.
In the 200 IM, Natalie Dillinger scored for Fairfax, finishing in 9th place. Junior Christine Kelly dropped 2 seconds off of her personal best time in the event.
Two Rebels scored in the 50 Freestyle where Rachael Wray posted a 9th place finish and a personal best time, and Katie Rigotti finished 16th. Seniors Aubrey May and Alex Judge both posted personal best swims in the event.
In the dive event, it was a new district, but a familiar result. The meet was dominated by Rebels junior Kelli Stockton. Kelli posted a score of 423.60 which was good for a personal best, district championship and a new school record. Freshman Hannah Patteson and Junior Taylor Deivert also reached scoring position with a 12th and 16th place finish respectively.
In the 100 Yard Butterfly Natalie Dillinger stepped up big, posting a personal best time securing a 6th place finish and a spot in the Northern Region Championships. Junior Amanda Kelly dropped a full second off her previous personal best time and scored in the 14th position. Freshmen Katie Quinnette and Hannah Patteson both posted personal best times.
The Lady Rebels scored another A finalist and Region qualifier in the 100 Yard Freestyle. Freshman Matty Ferguson finished in a qualifying 4th place finish. Sophomore Rachael Wray (11th) and Freshman Marla Surette (12th) both scored for the Rebels.
In the 500 Freestyle, Sophomore Jenna Degner-Lopez continued her string of personal best times in this event and scored in the 10th position. Junior Emma Griffin had been closing in on the 6 minute mark in this event all season, and her hard work paid off as she posted a 5:59.35 time and scored in 14th place. Sophomore Katie Robertson and Freshman Shannon Cosgrove also posted personal best times dropping 8 and 20 seconds respectively.
The relay team of Rachael Wray, Marla Surette, Natalie Dillinger and Matty Ferguson performed again in the 200 Freestyle Relay again finishing in 4th place and setting a season low time.
In the 100 Yard Backstroke, junior Amanda Kelley set a personal best time in scroing in 14th place for the Lady Rebels. Freshman Shannon McKenzie and Junior Christine Kelly posted personal best times inthe event.
Freshman Matty Ferguson joined Kelli Stockton as a Liberty District Champion and State qualifier with her performance in the 100 Breaststorke. Just as Kelli did in the dive event, Matty won the event in impressive style with over a 2 second margin over the 2nd place swimmer. Junior Emma Griffin dropped nearly 2 seconds off of her personal best time and scored in 15th position. Sophomore Gabby Nazario and freshman Shannon Cosgrove both posted personal best times in the event.
The Regional Qualifiers return to action on February 4th for the Northern Region Championships.
